Also coming back to share that, in a surprise to absolutely no one, I picked a Taylor Swift song for the practice you suggested! I picked my all-time favorite, “You’re On Your Own, Kid” and paid close attention to the things Taylor does so masterfully that always touch my heart. She makes her personal experience feel communal. She juxtaposes phrases and imagery to create emotional tension that reflects an honest and messy human experience. She poetically describes ordinary things like the passage of time with phrases like “from sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes” when other people might have said “when summer turned to winter” or “6 months later”. And she speaks so lovingly to her younger self in this song and others, recognizing her previous naivety, angst, and bitterness not with judgment but with compassion and wisdom. Anyway I could blabber forever about this but mostly just wanted to share and say thank you for this idea and inspiring a moment of meditation and connection with myself and a song that resonates so deeply.

THIS!!! I so love this and how you captured everything. I have been thinking a lot about the angst and frustration and judgment I hold for my younger self, especially in a very particular period of time. I'm practicing giving 'that person' grace and compassion, which I've found to be challenging at times. I so appreciate you sharing this and am grateful for the timing of it. You captured something that is so meaningful and heartfelt. Thank you!
