Coaching lessons for surviving a season of chaos
BE NICE
A roadhouse philosopher with beautiful hair whose star burned brightest in the late twentieth century once shared a simple, but special, philosophy:
Be nice.
Days are always long and stressful. Practices never unfold according to plan. It always feels like there’s something else — or more — we should be doing. And something else usually seems like something better or more important. The team will test your patience and pull on every loose thread of sanity.
You know what?
Very little, if anything at all, will change by fighting — or raging — against it.
And that’s okay.
Because it doesn’t cost a thing to be nice, and nobody, especially the kids on the team, enjoys a grumpster.

The above is an excerpt from Below the 8-Foot Rim: Hoops, Dreams, and a Season inside U8 Rec Basketball.
The book is a joyful look at a season spent smiling into the chaos of rec sports. You’ll laugh. You’ll smile. You’ll remember when the Big East ruled the hardwood. And that means you should give it a read.
SO GOOD!!!! 🤣
